About this ebook

Det graa Hus is a haunting exploration of decline and emotional desolation set within the walls of a decaying Danish mansion. Through the interconnected lives of its inhabitants, Herman Bang crafts a portrait of aristocratic decay and suppressed passion, where the grey house itself becomes a character—silent witness to the slow unraveling of family bonds, social pretense, and human hope in nineteenth-century Scandinavia.

About the author

Herman Bang (1857-1912) was a Danish novelist, playwright, and journalist regarded as one of Scandinavia's most innovative literary modernists. Known for his psychological depth and experimental narrative techniques, Bang explored themes of alienation, desire, and social constraint that would influence Nordic literature for generations. His work bridged Naturalism and early Modernism.

Haberdash Books is dedicated to bringing overlooked works of European and world literature into English. We specialise in nineteenth and early twentieth-century fiction from lesser-translated languages and traditions.
