The instant New York Times bestseller and award-winning sensation, Helen Macdonald's story of adopting and raising one of nature's most vicious predators has soared into the hearts of millions of readers worldwide. Fierce and feral, her goshawk Mabel's temperament mirrors Helen's own state of grief after her father's death, and together raptor and human "discover the pain and beauty of being alive" (People). H Is for Hawk is a genre-defying debut from one of our most unique and transcendent voices.

this book needed 5 more edits to be readable, and an actually story to be likeable. short choppy 5 word sentences all in a row was the most irritating thing to read, and it read like a flow of consciousness journal rather than a book. Yes, I understand its supposed to be how the mind works when dealing with depression and grief, but on top of the constant rambling and tangents, everything about it was so BORING. Her father died and she spends more time talking about an entirely different author than her own father. At that point I have to wonder WHY I should care about her journey with grief when she doesn't even give us anything about her connection with him and where he still overlaps in her life. I have nothing to empathize with this narrator with other than "oh your dad died and you're struggling Im so sorry". Also the over explaining of her own metaphors was so damn irritating, and realizing your bird is a bird is WILD. Yes birds like to play. most wildlife does.

Very pleasant reading. Engaging and entertaining. Wish there had been more on grieving, but enjoyed it all the same.
