About this ebook

“Asterin deserves a chance. We might be the only people to give her one.”

Asterin Hale is a hybrid. Half faerie and half vampire. A creature that is not highly regarded in the world she lives in.

However, for the first time in her life, Asterin has been given a chance. She is offered a place at The Coalesce Academy – A boarding school housing four classes of magical beings. Faeries, Spellcasters, Vampires and Werewolves.

But Asterin isn’t any of these.

★★★★★ "I am in absolute awe of Harriet James and how she has managed to create such a vivid world in just a short amount of pages. This book had me hooked from the very beginning and each page left me wanting more."

★★★★★ "I screamed. I have no shame in admitting that I screamed when I read the first chapter of this book."

Aside from this book not being a complete story (it stops halfway through to sell you the next book), the book sets up a messy situation that is not for me. Spoilers: So, the book ends on a cliffhanger that the main protagonist wipes out the school bully. The reasons given stated in book 2 is that she can absorb magic. My problem is that this basically shuts down any character building, why cause the bully is now essentially human, meaning he's been kicked from the school. The main character doesn't face any real consequences for her actions. The author has poor emotional understanding to make good character developments. Do not read the next book, I only sampled it to find out the horrors of this author's ability to resolve plot points.

The story line is intriguing enough that I went and bought the rest of the series. But the main character is generally annoying. Verbal interactions written are rather flat...
