About this ebook

Voted America's Best-Loved Novel in PBS's The Great American Read

"One of the most—if not the most—beloved of American novels." —The New Yorker

Harper Lee's Pulitzer Prize-winning masterwork of honor and injustice in the deep South—and the heroism of one man in the face of blind and violent hatred

One of the most cherished stories of all time, To Kill a Mockingbird has been translated into more than forty languages, sold more than fifty million copies worldwide, and was voted one of the best novels of the twentieth century by librarians across the country. A gripping, heart-wrenching, and wholly remarkable tale of coming-of-age in a South poisoned by virulent prejudice, it views a world of great beauty and savage inequities through the eyes of a young girl, Scout Finch, as her father, Atticus—a crusading local lawyer—risks everything to defend a black man unjustly accused of a terrible crime.

Harper Lee explores with rich humor and unswerving honesty the irrationality of adult attitudes toward race and class in the Deep South of the 1930s. The conscience of a town steeped in prejudice, violence, and hypocrisy is pricked by the stamina and quiet heroism of one man's struggle for justice—but the weight of history will only tolerate so much.

Wow. Just wow. This book was beautiful, touching, and gripping. I fully enjoyed the coming of age aspect and the mystery surrounding their neighbor Boo. Surprisingly, the book touched on the case before Atticus, but it didn't take over the book like I thought it would. Tom's story leads to the morality and development of the story of the children and Atticus, but it doesn't overpower. All the characters, love them or hate them, were very well written and I liked them all. My absolute favorite was Scout. She was funny and kept me laughing. Her smart mouth was very humorous. The ending was touching and made for a smile to show on my face. Highly recommended. A classic for a reason. 4.7/5

not a fan at all. I know someone that hates this book somuch that they erased the story from their mind. I don't like it at all. I'm only giving 2 stars because there are worse books. But I probably wouldn't recommend this book to anybody. If it was free I could think about maybe reading it just so that you could understand some references that people use. But the references are not common so I'd say not to read this book. Unless, of course, you are a fan of tomboys in your story and some other things that I think are junk

I read this in high school. It's a good book. I would give it five stars if it told (closer to) everything, even in fiction form. It has a message about hard times that still go on in some different forms today. We read books that have details that are very graphic but educational, even in fiction form, even tougher than this book. This is a situation where the same should be written in a book more often...even as fiction. This book is nothing, even if it's something for a sheltered person.
