About this ebook

Key Selling Points
  • This book aims to help readers understand what a disability is, what it’s like to be a person with a disability and how to become a better ally for people with disabilities.
  • Do blind people really hear better? Can guide dogs interpret traffic signals? Can a woman in a wheelchair have a baby? These and other common questions are broken down to help all readers better understand the disability experience.
  • Disability advocates are becoming much more vocal and there is a lack of nonfiction books for teens that approach the subject from the inside.
  • Hannalora Leavitt is a writer who has been visually impaired since the age of 11.
  • 650 million people around the world (10%) live with a disability.

About the author

Hannalora Leavitt lives on Vancouver Island on Canada’s west coast. She has a master’s degree in writing from the University of Victoria. All About Us is her second book about people with disabilities and the different worlds in which they live. She knows and understands difference because she too has a disability. Her standard poodle guide dog, Ogden, keeps her company while she works.

Belle has contributed to more than a dozen books for kids, a number of which have won awards or been republished internationally, including the Montaigne Medal Award–winning Eyes and Spies: How You’re Tracked and Why You Should Know and the Silver Birch Award nominee Eat Up: An Infographic Exploration of Food.
