About this ebook

Flexible Distribution Systems and Distributed Energy Resources: Concepts, Strategies, Emerging Technologies and Market is a comprehensive resource on innovative solutions for Distributed Energy Resources (DER) integration and grid flexibility. DERs are pivotal to enabling the global energy transition. Rapid integration of DERs into traditional power systems present new challenges that require innovative solutions that bridge the gap between technology, policy, and economics.Chapters present a comprehensive overview of DERs and grid flexibility and their associated integration challenges. Innovative solutions including artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning algorithms (MLAs), IoT, blockchain, and digital twins are examined. Chapters also offer systems level perspectives on deploying advanced control strategies for DERs in low inertia grid and analysis of power systems that can handle high DER penetration while maintaining flexibility. Additionally, solutions for navigating evolving market structures and economic frameworks such as peer-to-peer trading and flexibility markets and aligning DER deployment with policy innovation and future trends for flexibility are examined. Real-world case studies are included to demonstrate practical implementation strategies of these solutions. This book is valuable to engineers, professionals, academics, and policy makers engaged in the energy transition and interested in developing flexible power systems.. - Applies DERs' advanced control, optimization, artificial intelligence, and real-time monitoring techniques, considering emerging technologies for intelligent grid operation. - Discusses demand-side flexibility, virtual power plants, microgrids, energy storage, and electric vehicle integration. - Evaluates market frameworks and examines regulatory, policy, cybersecurity, interoperability, and implementation challenges. - Presents future trends and strategic pathways for building flexible, sustainable, resilient, and digitally enabled distribution networks.
