Acerca de este libro electrónico

"Faith's Checkbook" is one of Charles Spurgeon's most beloved devotional works — a treasury of 365 daily readings, each built around a single promise from Scripture. First published in 1888, the book takes its title from Spurgeon's central image: a promise from God is like a check made payable to every believer, and faith is the act of endorsing and presenting it at Heaven's counter.

Each daily entry is brief and direct: a Scripture promise, a few sentences of Spurgeon's own experience and commentary, and an encouragement to trust God fully in the present moment. Written during a period of personal suffering — including severe illness, bereavement, and public controversy — the entries carry the weight of a man who had tested these promises and found them true. Spurgeon wrote not as a theorist but as a witness.

The readings move through every season of the Christian life: times of fear and boldness, of grief and joy, of weakness and unexpected strength. The promise at the center of every entry is always the same: God is faithful. He will not fail you.

This edition compiles all 365 daily entries, together with the complete Index of Bible Verses, for the modern reader.

Acerca del autor

Charles Haddon Spurgeon (1834–1892) was the most celebrated English preacher of the nineteenth century. Born in Kelvedon, Essex, he began preaching as a teenager and by the age of twenty was drawing congregations of thousands to the New Park Street Chapel in London. He later built the Metropolitan Tabernacle in Southwark, which became one of the largest churches in the world.

Spurgeon preached almost every Sunday for nearly forty years, and his sermons — which fill sixty-three volumes in their collected edition — were printed, translated, and circulated worldwide during his lifetime. He also founded Spurgeon's College for training ministers, established an orphanage, and edited a monthly magazine for thirty-six years.

He suffered greatly in his later years: from severe gout, from periods of deep depression, and from a painful public controversy within the Baptist denomination. It was out of this crucible that much of his devotional writing emerged, including "Morning and Evening" (1865) and "Faith's Checkbook" (1888). He died at Mentone, France, in January 1892, at the age of fifty-seven. His influence on evangelical Christianity worldwide has not diminished since.
