About this ebook

One heart can burn the way to freedom...

Everyone knows you don't mess with the empire. Our tyrannical overlords rule our conquered kingdom with an iron fist. Even after they killed my parents and left me orphaned and ostracized, I've swallowed my resentment. I survive by keeping my head down, scavenging the scraps my neighbors discard.

But when I see the empire's soldiers destroying my mother's last sculpture in the town square, years of bottled rage boil over.

I never expect my sudden act of defiance to spark a full-out rebellion. Now I'm at odds with the empire's entire army with nothing but my wits and sheer stubbornness on my side. Well, that and three incredible men I'm guarding my heart from, because they can't possibly want a nobody like me... can they?

No one thinks I stand a chance, but I'm done with cowering. I'll lead my country to freedom–or die trying.

*Heart of Defiance is a standalone reverse harem romantasy novel with a fierce underdog heroine and three protective men who see her true worth.*

An origin story for Signy and her men! Signy has an interesting backstory (tragic backstory with a hint of rejection by her patron goddess, thus ostracizing her from her town). Jostein and Iko were interesting additions to her team and they were still dynamic enough to stand on their own without needing Signy to lead them around. Landric was a fun addition and nicely rounded out the group. This is a fairly quick read that introduces a wonderful and butt-kicking female lead!!

For a shorter fantasy/romance reverse harem, this was pretty great, and I read it in one sitting. I liked the characters, and was invested in their success and relationships. I expected it to be a bit spicier than it was, and could have enjoyed a few more chapters of their enjoyment IYKYK...! There was one part of the book towards the end that felt very unrealistic... I think it could have continued the plot and story length a bit more, but that part of the plot ended a bit flat for me, which was why I dropped a ⭐. This was an ARC Reader Review received from BookSirens, rated 4⭐!! I'd still read more about these characters and their future, and wish there was a little more depth at the end regarding their life and lifestyle. Overall would still recommend!!

I enjoyed the story, though it did seem a little more rushed than her other books. This was more of a novella. But an outcast that became the leader of a rebellion? Totally there! I just love the magic system in this world and the different abilities. It's so unique. Overall, a great story!
