The narrative centers on Nam Yu (also known as Nam Wu), a man who discovers his true identity as a prince of the Mu Shun dynasty after years of suffering and displacement. Traded at birth for another child by a guilt-ridden servant, Nam Yu returns to a Capital teetering on the edge of a coup led by the ruthless Empress and a devious Prime Minister.
As Nam Yu prepares to "turn the tide" with a secret elite army of 20,000 men, the lines between monster and mentor blur. "English & Malay for Daily Life" is an arena of political intrigue and personal reckoning, challenging readers to find their way out of a palace built on secrets.
Tentang pengarang
Lourdes Liz is a storyteller who specializes in narratives of duality, linguistic rhythm, and the chilling atmosphere of "gothic bureaucracy". With a keen eye for both book design and digital art, Liz creates immersive fictional worlds that serve as constructs of "many rooms," often exploring the gaps between a word and its echo.
In her work, Liz draws inspiration from:
Linguistic Heritage: Integrating the spirit of various languages—from Malay and English to the rhythm of Russian—to ensure duality is a "genuine breath within the story".
The Concept of "Selection": An obsession with the cold, myriad forms of choice and the invisible scripts of power.
Haunting Traditions: A deep indebtedness to the stark traditions of folktales and the concept of the "silent test".
Residing in the worlds she creates until her "tether" leads her home, Lourdes Liz invites readers to be disoriented, to question, and to persist through the ornate cages of her imagination.
