Emilia Pardo Bazán (1851–1921) was a Spanish novelist, short story writer, and critic of Galician origin who championed literary naturalism in late 19th-century Spain despite prevailing gender constraints. A countess and intellectual maverick, she produced over 600 works and remains one of Spain's most significant literary figures, known for her unflinching social commentary and psychological penetration.
Haberdash Books is dedicated to bringing overlooked works of European and world literature into English. We specialise in nineteenth and early twentieth-century fiction from lesser-translated languages and traditions.
