About this ebook

In the cobblestone heart of an unnamed European city, where time flows differently and memories linger in the gears of antique clocks, Elias Thornwood has spent forty years repairing broken timepieces—and avoiding the broken pieces of his own past.

A master clockmaker with an uncanny gift for hearing what clocks are trying to say, Elias has built his life around precision, predictability, and the comforting rhythm of ticking mechanisms. But when a mysterious woman brings him a pocket watch that shouldn't exist—a watch that holds the power to rewind time by exactly one hour—his carefully ordered world unravels.

The Clockmaker's Second Chance is a luminous work of magical realism that explores the weight of regret, the courage required to forgive oneself, and the extraordinary possibilities hidden within ordinary moments. As Elias discovers that the pocket watch belonged to someone he once loved and lost, he must decide whether to use its power to change the past or finally accept that some broken things are meant to stay broken.

With lyrical prose and deeply felt emotion, Elena Brooks weaves a story about time, memory, and the quiet magic that exists in the spaces between heartbeats. This is a novel for anyone who has ever wondered: if you could go back, would you? And if you did, would it make you whole?

Perfect for readers who love the enchanting realism of Isabel Allende, the emotional depth of Kazuo Ishiguro, and the whimsical melancholy of Neil Gaiman, The Clockmaker's Second Chance is a testament to the idea that it is never too late to begin again.

About the author

Elena Brooks is a writer of literary fiction and magical realism whose work explores the intersection of memory, time, and the quiet magic hidden in everyday life. Born in a small coastal town in the Pacific Northwest, she spent her childhood surrounded by books, clocks, and the endless rain that she now credits with teaching her the art of listening.

Elena studied comparative literature and horology at university, a combination that her advisors found unusual but that she considers the foundation of everything she writes. She believes that clocks are the most honest machines humans have ever created—they tell the truth, even when we don't want to hear it—and that every timepiece carries within it the memories of the people who have owned it, wound it, and listened to it tick.

The Clockmaker's Second Chance is her third novel. Her previous works include The Cartographer's Daughter (2019), a lyrical exploration of memory and place, and The Glassblower's Garden (2021), a story about grief, transformation, and the alchemy of creation. Her short fiction has appeared in The Paris Review, Granta, and One Story, and she has been the recipient of fellowships from the National Endowment for the Arts and the MacDowell Colony.

Elena lives in a converted clock tower in the Pacific Northwest, where she writes, repairs antique timepieces, and listens to the rain. She is currently working on her fourth novel, which she describes as "a love story told in the language of broken watches."
