About this ebook

Wings she never asked for, a Viking warrior she can't resist, and a tyrant king to overthrow—all while trying to find her sisters before time runs out.

Kiki is a failed demon slayer living in the city. When she discovers a secret about her past, she’s thrown into the Northlands—a brutal realm ruled by a false king. Trust is dangerous. Everyone is broken or does the breaking, and the ashpit consumes the rest.

Then Kiki meets Soren—a guy who looks like a Viking and looks at her in a way that makes her fluttery inside.

Turns out Soren spends too much time at the tile table and infuriating the king's guards—evidenced by his ink-stained skin. He gave up fighting back and is just trying to survive ... and stop her.

Kiki has no intention of leaving the Northlands—or its people—to suffer. Finding the sisters she never knew existed means uncovering her fae heritage, mastering unfamiliar magic, and convincing Soren to join a rebellion he stopped believing could succeed.

With war looming, time isn’t on their side. It's a battle that could divide them forever and forever is what we each secretly want.

This is book 1 of 4 in the Court of Crown and Compass series and is perfect for fans of closed door, no spice, slow burn romantasy chock full of mystery, danger, and sizzling kisses.

7/10 stars. It started out good but the second half fell off. The description of things became nebulous and unclear. There was an overall loss of clarity.

This was a great first book of this series. I enjoyed all of the different characters with magical abilities. Oppression and poverty and two worlds colliding. I really wasn't so sure about this series because of the demons aspect, but I think that Hall dealt really well with that and I didn't feel too weird about it. I'm excited to see where things go in the next book. This book was a standalone, but also with a continuing mystery for the rest of the series.

About the author

E. Hall is the author of *unputdownable* fantasy and paranormal romance books. She’s also known for making up words, which kind of goes with the territory. She’s in constant pursuit of wonder, waves, and nachos. When she’s not writing about fae, wolves, and magic, she’s probably writing under her romance pen name...or reading. There is no such thing as too many books.
