About this ebook

The invitation arrived on black parchment, sealed with red wax that felt unnaturally warm to the touch. Jack had chosen Friday the 13th deliberately—a night when the veil between worlds wore thin, though he didn't know how thin it would become.

His great aunt Hilda's cabin waited in the depths of the Whispering Pines, where trees grew twisted and wrong, their branches clawing at the perpetually grey sky. Jack was the last of his bloodline, the only one left to inherit the cursed property. What he didn't know—what his family had desperately tried to bury along with so many other secrets—was that some inheritances are better left unclaimed.

The Witch's History

Three centuries ago, Hilda had fled Salem as witch-hunter torches lit up the Massachusetts night. She was no innocent accused—she was genuinely, horrifically guilty. The things she had done in her cellar laboratory, the screams that echoed from her locked rooms, the children who disappeared when she passed through town... even other practitioners of the dark arts whispered her name with fear.

She had found this cabin, built it with her own gnarled hands over a natural convergence of ley lines where the earth itself seemed to pulse with malevolent energy. Here, she could work in peace, communing with entities that predated human language, transcribing their whispers into her most prized possession: a leather-bound book with pages that seemed to writhe when you weren't looking directly at them.

But an old farmer named Ezekiel—his mind already half-rotted from proximity to Hilda's dark works—had seen too much. He watched through her window one October night as she read from her book, watched as shadows peeled themselves from the walls and took shapes that defied geometry and sanity. When she caught him peering in, she smiled—and that smile promised horrors beyond death.

The witch hunters came with righteous fury and silver-blessed blades. They surrounded her cabin at dawn, twenty strong men who had sent dozens of witches to their graves. But Hilda fought like a demon incarnate, killing five before they finally overwhelmed her with blessed nets and cold iron chains.

"Any last words, witch?" the lead hunter had asked, his axe already raised.

Hilda's eyes—black as tar pits—fixed on him with terrible knowing. "I curse your bloodlines. Your children's children will bring me back. This flesh is temporary, but my will is eternal. I will return, and I will make you watch as I unmake everything you love."

The axe fell with a meaty thunk, but instead of blood, a thick black ichor poured from her neck, steaming and hissing where it touched the ground. Her head rolled to a stop, but her eyes remained open, pupils dilating and contracting like she was still alive, still seeing, still hating.

They burned her body until nothing remained but greasy ash. But the head... the head wouldn't burn. The flames parted around it like water around stone. So they wrapped it in blessed cloth and buried it beneath the cabin's floorboards along with her accursed book, speaking prayers until their voices were hoarse, praying it would be enough.

It wasn't.

Poorly written, poorly proofread, poorly thought out, and poorly executed. My 10 year old writes much better stories than this and at a higher reading level. I give it 2 stars since it was free. Had I been able to finish it I would have rated 3. Alas, I did not.

A complete waste of 5 minutes of my life I will never get back. I would literally be shocked to find out that this "writer" is older than nine or ten years of age. Seriously.

short, direct and concise very clear. it is an ad hoc read as to ease into the habit of reading when youve been away from the books for a while. I liked it ✅️
