Debra Henderson is a writer, meditation teacher, and lifelong traveler who has visited more than fifty countries across six continents. Her work explores the intersection of mindfulness practice and the transformative power of travel, drawing on two decades of personal experience and training in secular mindfulness traditions.
A certified Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) instructor, Henderson trained at the Center for Mindfulness at the University of Massachusetts Medical School and has led retreats and workshops in the United States, Europe, and Southeast Asia. She is the founder of the Mindful Passage program, which offers guided travel experiences designed to deepen participants' capacity for presence, resilience, and cross-cultural connection.
Henderson's writing has appeared in *Mindful Magazine*, *Travel + Leisure*, *The Washington Post*, and *Tricycle: The Buddhist Review*. She is also the author of *The Art of Arriving: Mindfulness for the Journey Home*, a companion volume on integrating travel insights into daily life. Her monthly newsletter, *The Mindful Road*, reaches readers in over thirty countries and offers practical reflections on living with intention in motion.
Before dedicating herself full-time to mindfulness and travel writing, Henderson worked as a wilderness guide in the Pacific Northwest and as a program coordinator for international education exchanges. These experiences shaped her conviction that the deepest learning happens when we step outside our comfort zones and meet the world with curiosity rather than fear.
Debra Henderson lives in Portland, Oregon, with her partner and two rescue dogs. When she's not on the road, she can be found hiking the Columbia River Gorge, sitting in meditation at the Portland Insight Meditation Community, or cooking meals inspired by the flavors of her travels. She believes that every journey, no matter how small, is an opportunity to wake up to the fullness of life.
