About this ebook

Rising Sun is a stand-alone novella, a prequel to David Macinnis Gill's acclaimed Black Hole Sun, of which Suzanne Collins said, "Black Hole Sun rockets readers to new frontiers . . . action-packed."

Jacob Stringfellow, aka Durango, once had a promising career in the elite armed forces. That was before. Before his father betrayed him and his unit. Before he almost died and had an artificial intelligence flash-cloned to his brain. Now Durango and Mimi (the AI) are figuring out how to get along and figuring out how to stay in the game. Set on a violent and unforgettable dystopian Mars, this is a must read for fans of the author's Black Hole Sun trilogy and for anyone who loves intense, action-packed science fiction.

Epic Reads Impulse is a digital imprint with new releases each month.

He was the best soldier they had. Now he’s a convict with an AI in his head. Can he survive the unforgiving landscape of Mars when everyone wants him dead?

  • YA Dystopian Adventure: Explore the gritty, sun-scorched landscape of a terraformed Mars where corporate greed has created a brutal new frontier.
  • Artificial Intelligence Companion: Meet Mimi, the snarky AI flash-cloned to Durango’s brain. She’s supposed to be helping him heal, but her constant fact-checking might drive him crazy first.
  • Military Sci-Fi Action: A former elite soldier betrayed by his own father, Durango must use every bit of his training to navigate a world of mercenaries, warlords, and shifting alliances.
  • Found Family: To complete his mission, Durango must team up with a ‘davos’—a crew of fellow outcasts—and decide who he can trust when the lines between friend and enemy blur.
  • Prequel Novella: The perfect entry point into the Black Hole Sun universe or a must-read for fans who want to discover Durango’s origin story before the trilogy begins.
