David Anderson is a personal finance writer and researcher who has spent the past fifteen years studying the intersection of money, happiness, and human behavior. After a decade working as a financial advisor, where he watched clients achieve their savings goals but still feel unsatisfied, he shifted his focus to the psychology of spending—what he calls "the emotional architecture of our financial lives."
His writing has appeared in *The Wall Street Journal*, *The Atlantic*, and *Kiplingers*, and he is the creator of the popular newsletter *The Thoughtful Spender*, which reaches more than eighty thousand subscribers monthly. Anderson's work has been featured on NPR's *Life Kit*, the *ChooseFI* podcast, and at the Financial Planning Association's annual conference.
Anderson lives in Portland, Oregon, with his wife and two children, where he practices what he preaches: spending generously on travel, good food, and time with people he loves, while remaining happily indifferent to the latest gadgets, fashion trends, and status symbols. He runs ultramarathons, reads voraciously, and has maintained the same pair of hiking boots for eleven years—not because he can't afford new ones, but because the old ones still fit perfectly and carry memories of every trail they've covered.
