By not dealing with an unfulfilling marriage, I fell to the temptations that come with working in high-end environments with all the beautiful people. Equipped with an expense account, I became a womanizer and partier, eating and drinking in all the finest restaurants in Los Angeles. I lied to everyone: my wife, my kids, my employers, my dates, and myself. But even more significantly, I lied to God. My life was based on layers of lies. Lies require more lies. Trying to hide sin requires more sin. It was an endless, vicious, downward spiral. I always thought I was fooling my wife and kids but later found out they pretty much knew what was going on all along. Of course, God did, too. My friends bragged about how I was able to get away with this lifestyle by BSing everyone. I now know that by not being a present husband and father and missing out on spending important time with my kids, I did them and myself a major disservice. I don’t blame them for feeling bitter and resentful toward me. I take full responsibility for what I created. My compromised relationships with my kids are a painful reality. We’re all aging—and it starts the second we’re born. Living happier, healthier, wealthier, and wiser is an inside job. Dave Williams reflects on his failures, successes, and life experiences to consider questions such as: How do you rebound after getting derailed by alcohol, drugs, and other bad habits? Can someone rebuke Jesus and find Him again? What does it mean to live with a clarity of purpose? What does God want for each one of us? The author contends that celebrating life depends on what you carry inside of you each day.
