About this ebook

The gates went dark twenty years ago. On Knossos, the warlords moved in.

Knossos was a frontier world once connected to a thousand others through the jump-gate network. When the gates collapsed, it didn't die. It fractured.

Now eight Octogarchs — regional warlords — carve the planet between them, each one ruling through augmentation, militias, and control of whatever technology still works.

Then the Glenatat devices wake up.

An augmented veteran known as Monk intervenes when Ebony Guard forces pursue a fugitive connected to one of the reawakened artifacts. What starts as a rescue pulls him into a power struggle between rival Octogarchs, each one trying to weaponize alien technology that was never built for human hands.

Monk's own augmentations make him valuable. They also make him vulnerable — because the same systems that make him deadly are the ones the Glenatat devices are beginning to rewrite.

After betrayal by a friend he trusted, Monk learns what the devices actually are: not weapons, or tools, but something older and less forgiving than anything the Octogarchs understand. If any faction activates them fully, the planet will become something unrecognizable.

He assembles an unlikely alliance to neutralize the technology before anyone can use it. The cost of stopping it is the same as the cost of using it: someone has to integrate with the system. Someone has to let the alien code in.

There are no good options. Someone still has to choose.

Inside:

Fast-paced science fiction on a planet cut off from the stars

Power that externalises its cost — and who paid for it

Every book resolves. No cliffhanger manipulation.

If you liked The Expanse because competent people get trapped inside broken systems where power always costs someone, you will feel at home on Knossos.

If you liked Dune because knowledge and power trap the people who hold them, this is that kind of story.

Sovereigns of Ruin — a standalone novel in the Shattered Empire universe.

You don't know who you are until it costs you.
