Destani Bissett is a productivity researcher, executive coach, and the creator of The Focus Protocol — a distraction-free productivity system used by thousands of professionals across Fortune 500 companies, high-growth startups, and independent practices.
With a background in cognitive neuroscience and organizational psychology, Bissett spent eight years studying attention systems in high-demand environments before developing the protocol that would become the basis of her work. Her research has been published in peer-reviewed journals on topics including attention residue, context-switching costs, and the environmental determinants of focused work. She has presented her findings at conferences including the American Psychological Association's Work, Stress, and Health Conference and the International Conference on Cognitive Ergonomics.
Before founding The Focus Protocol Institute, Bissett served as the Director of Productivity Research at a major technology company, where she led a team studying the relationship between workplace communication patterns and knowledge worker output. She has consulted with organizations including Microsoft, Dropbox, and the United States Department of Defense on attention management and productivity system design.
Bissett is the author of three previous books: *The Attention Economy* (2020), *Single-Threaded: The Case Against Multitasking* (2022), and *Deep Work for Teams* (2023). She regularly writes for Harvard Business Review, Fast Company, and Inc. Magazine on topics related to productivity, attention, and workplace design.
She lives in Portland, Oregon, where she maintains her own Focus Protocol with stubborn imperfection and is currently learning classical piano — one Focus Block at a time.
