Desmonte Dickens is an artist, educator, and creative development specialist with over fifteen years of experience teaching drawing, painting, and mixed media techniques to students at every skill level. His approach to art education emphasizes structured practice, accessible materials, and the belief that creative skill is developed through consistent effort rather than innate talent a philosophy that has guided his work with thousands of students in classroom settings, workshops, and online courses.
Dickens holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the Savannah College of Art and Design and a Master of Arts in Art Education from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. He has taught foundation level drawing and design courses at the university level and developed community based art programs in partnership with museums and cultural organizations across the southeastern United States. His own studio practice focuses on mixed media works that explore the intersection of geometric abstraction and organic form, drawing on influences ranging from African textile patterns to mid-century modern architecture.
His writing on art practice and creative development has appeared in Art Education Journal, The Artist's Magazine, and on his popular Substack newsletter, The Persistent Studio, where he writes about the habits, mindsets, and systems that sustain creative work over the long term. 30 Creative Projects for Artistic Mastery is his first book.
He lives in Atlanta, Georgia, where he maintains a studio practice, teaches workshops, and is currently at work on his next book, a guide to building sustainable creative routines for artists at all stages of their careers.
