Widely regarded as Charles Hodge’s masterpiece of biblical exposition, his commentary on Romans stands as a landmark work of nineteenth-century American theology. Originally published in 1835 and later meticulously revised, this volume reflects Hodge’s deep engagement with the bedrock of Pauline theology. With unyielding intellectual precision and profound spiritual depth, he guides the reader through Paul’s supreme statement of the gospel—tracing the grand themes of human depravity, justification by faith alone, union with Christ, and the sovereign grace of God. Essential reading for pastors, scholars, and serious readers of Scripture, Hodge’s Romans remains an extraordinary synthesis of rigorous linguistic analysis, robust Reformed doctrine, and heart-felt pastoral application.
