About this ebook

Clive Barker, author of The Thief of Always, delivers an epic battle filled with fantasy and adventure that readers won't want to put down!

A journey beyond imagination is about to unfold...

It begins in Chickentown, USA. There lives Candy Quackenbush, her heart bursting for some clue as to what her future might hold.

When the answer comes, it’s not one she expects.

Welcome to the Abarat, a vast archipelago where every island is a different hour of the day. Candy has a place in this extraordinary land: She is here to help save the Abarat from the dark forces that are stirring at its heart—forces older than Time itself, and more evil than anything Candy has ever encountered. She’s a strange heroine, she knows. But this is a strange world.

And in the Abarat, all things are possible.

Don't miss this first book in Clive Barker's New York Times bestselling Abarat series.

But to save this world of wonders, can a girl from the most boring town on Earth face down the Lord of Midnight?

  • A World of Twenty-Five Hours: Explore a vast archipelago where every island is a different hour of the day, from the sun-drenched shores of the Nonce to the terrifying darkness of Gorgossium.
  • Good vs. Evil: Join Candy as she battles to save the Abarat from the dark forces of Christopher Carrion, the Lord of Midnight, and his monstrous servants.
  • Strange Creatures and Unlikely Allies: Meet an unforgettable cast of characters, from the eight-headed John Mischief to the monstrous Mendelson Shape, in a world where nothing is as it seems.
  • Epic Fantasy Adventure: A journey that begins in a boring Minnesota town and unfolds across a magical sea into a breathtaking epic filled with wonder, terror, and destiny.
  • Dark Fantasy for Teens: From the master of dark fantasy, Clive Barker, comes a story that balances luminous wonder with moments of genuine terror, perfect for young adult readers who love immersive worlds.

This book is my favorite. I own a hard copy and just bought the book on my phone. However, there are no pics which are an important aspect to the story. I'd give it 5 if the pages looked like they do in the book.

But I can't give Clive more than three for this one. I've read much better from him. This came across as confusing and dull.

This book has been on the outskirts of my memory since I read it when I was a young child - it captured my imagination like few others did, but I never knew it was a series! I'm so excited to read it again, and I encourage you to do the same, if you're fond of rabbit-hole-type novels or worlds that tickle your curiosity.
