One of the worst pieces of trash I have ever read. The characters are not relatable and the story is just awful. Of all the SW novels I have read over the last 20 years this one is in my top three worst. I hate to say this because I love almost all things SW related but this book was unreadable. I felt no connection to the characters. The writing style is some of the worst I have ever read and the story was bland and boring. I hope this author is NEVER asked to write another SW book.

It wasn't a bad book. Good story and good perspectives. However the writing wasn't very good and the plot points felt forced an unnatural. The author also tried too hard to tie important events in the movie closely with the characters you follow. It is okay for them to be there, but should one of them really need to be the person who found the weakness in the Death Star? It would have been a more enjoyable read had the writing been better and the flow more natural. That being said, the main relationship did seem authentic. Supporting relationships felt flat and forced. One last point that annoyed me, quit taking phrases right from the movies! The characters were not the main characters in the movies and didn't think exactly the same!

Fantastic exploration into the psyche of the ordinary person in the imperial ranks, pacing gets a bit rushed once it enters original trilogy material, but besides it's sort comings clarifying time jumps this was the most enjoyable read out of the now 33 star wars EU novels I've read. Fantastic character writing.
