About this ebook

Five stolen moments. Five roads not taken. Five chances for love to rewrite itself. For readers who have always wondered what if — what if the dance had ended differently, what if the right words were overheard at exactly the right moment, what if a gentleman's call revealed more than mere courtesy — discover five short stories that dare to step off the well-worn path of Austen's beloved original. From a stumble on a polished ballroom floor that tumbles two hearts into breathless honesty, to a pair of gentlemen confessing admiration they never intended to be heard, each tale peels back the careful armour of pride and propriety to expose the longing underneath. A compromising catch forces a declaration. A private journal page falls into the wrong — or perhaps the most perfectly right — hands. A drawing-room inquisition armed with brandy and love refuses to let despair win. And somewhere between sharp wit and sharper feeling, two people who should never have suited each other at all discover that perhaps they suit each other perfectly. These are the scenes Austen left in shadow, the conversations that happened just offstage, the moments where everything could have changed — and in these pages, they do. If you have ever closed Pride and Prejudice and wished for just a little more — more tenderness, more daring, more of those electric instants before sense reasserts itself — can you really afford to leave these five doors unopened?

About the author

Catherine Bilson writes historical romances filled with heart, humor, and a dash of adventure. Raised in North Wales, she spent her childhood exploring the castles and manors her father restored, making up stories about the people who might once have lived there. It's perhaps no surprise that today she brings history to life in her novels, writing Regency romances, tales of American pioneers, and stories inspired by Jane Austen. Before Catherine started writing full-time, she followed her own adventurous path. She earned an engineering degree and worked as a rocket engineer, proving that smart heroines don't just exist in literature! The biggest turning point came when she met a tall, dark, and handsome Australian in London and decided to follow him to the other side of the globe. More than twenty-seven years later, they are still married and live in sunny Queensland with their two teenage sons and two adopted cats who run the household.
