About the Author
Carpenter Amanda is an award-winning science fiction author and writing instructor with over fifteen years of experience in the speculative fiction community. She is the creator of the *Starcruiser Chronicles* series (Dawnstar Press) and has published short fiction in *Clarkesworld*, *Lightspeed*, and *Beneath Ceaseless Skies*. Her work often explores themes of identity, memory, and the ethics of artificial intelligence.
Amanda holds an MFA in Creative Writing from the University of British Columbia, where she specialized in narrative structures in speculative genres. She has taught creative writing workshops at the Clarion West Writers’ Workshop, the Taos Toolbox, and numerous regional writing conferences. Her approach to character development—combining psychological theory with practical revision techniques—has helped hundreds of emerging writers publish debut novels and short stories.
When not writing or teaching, Amanda works as a developmental editor for a boutique literary agency, where she advises authors on character arc, pacing, and reader engagement. She also hosts the podcast *Character First*, where she interviews established sci-fi authors about their processes for building memorable heroes and villains.
She lives in Portland, Oregon, with her partner, two cats, and an ever-expanding collection of space opera novels. You can find her online at carpentamanda.com, where she offers free character worksheets and monthly writing challenges.
