A very realistic depiction of Christopher Columbus's third voyage to the Americas. If you want to read the best material on the early European colonization of the Caribbean and the horrors that were inflicted on its native peoples, you need to read this book. Some of the sections really affected me emotionally, like the descriptions of a native revolt in Hispaniola, that were written very powerfully, and brought to light the utter cruelty suffered by native Tiano peoples under Spanish rule. Very good book written beautifully well.
