There's not much in the way of fantasy in the first half-2/3's of the book. And the fantasy that does show up is pretty underwhelming. It's mostly a miltary/government book. Most of the characters are uninteresting or straight up unlikeable. A few of the characters get better towards the last half of the book, but not enough to make me want to find out what happens in the rest of the series. I would not recommend this book if you're looking for a traditional fantasy with a sense of wonder.

Thoroughly enjoyed the journey--excited to continue, though I can't help but imagine some large Rastafarians taking offense at a certain name choice...

I loved it, very well written with excellent world building and believable characters. When reading I could picture the characters in my mind effortlessly thanks to the great descriptive writing.
