About this ebook

Modern leadership demands constant decision-making, often in high-stakes, high-stress environments. When the nervous system is overwhelmed, cognitive function declines, empathy erodes, and burnout becomes inevitable. "Pulse and Power" bridges the gap between somatic psychology and executive leadership, offering a biological approach to sustainable performance. Rather than relying solely on cognitive strategies to manage stress, this book teaches leaders how to regulate their physiological state to access clarity and resilience exactly when they need it most.

At the core of the book is the PACED Framework, a practical, step-by-step methodology designed for the realities of leadership. Leaders will learn to Perceive their physiological stress signals before they escalate, Anchor themselves in the present moment, Calm their nervous system using evidence-based somatic techniques, Engage their prefrontal cortex for objective analysis, and Direct their actions with intention and empathy.

Through real-world case studies, actionable exercises, and insights from organizational psychology, "Pulse and Power" transforms abstract neuroscience into daily leadership practices. Readers will discover how to prevent the physical and emotional exhaustion that derails careers, cultivate a culture of psychological safety within their teams, and make grounded, effective decisions under pressure. This is not about eliminating stress, but about changing how the body responds to it. By mastering nervous system regulation, leaders can maintain their composure, connect authentically with their teams, and lead with a resilient, clear-headed presence that inspires confidence and drives organizational success.

About the author

Brenda Taylor’s journey into organizational psychology began not in a boardroom, but in the high-pressure environment of emergency medical dispatch. Witnessing firsthand the physiological toll of chronic stress on first responders, she became fascinated by the intersection of human biology and high-stakes decision-making. This early exposure to acute stress responses sparked a lifelong mission to understand how the nervous system impacts leadership and performance.

She formalized this passion by earning a doctorate in Organizational Psychology, followed by specialized certifications in somatic experiencing and neuroleadership. Her academic research focused on the physiological markers of executive burnout, leading to her pioneering work on integrating nervous system regulation into corporate leadership development.

Over the past two decades, Brenda has served as a strategic advisor to Fortune 500 executives, healthcare administrators, and military commanders. She has designed and facilitated the PACED Framework training for thousands of leaders, helping organizations reduce turnover by fostering cultures of psychological safety and sustainable performance. Her insights have been featured in numerous industry publications on workplace well-being and executive coaching.

Outside of her consulting and research, Brenda is an avid trail runner and practitioner of mindfulness-based stress reduction. She believes that physical movement and time spent in nature are essential components of cognitive recovery. She lives in the Pacific Northwest with her family, where she enjoys foraging, woodworking, and tending to her extensive greenhouse.

Her core philosophy rests on the belief that true leadership resilience is biological, not just psychological. She argues that you cannot think your way out of a nervous system response; you must regulate the body to free the mind. This grounded, evidence-based approach sets her work apart in a field often dominated by purely cognitive or motivational strategies.

Currently, Brenda is expanding her research into the neurobiological impacts of remote leadership and digital fatigue. She continues to refine somatic interventions for modern work environments, developing new protocols to help distributed teams maintain connection, clarity, and resilience across digital divides.
