The autobiographical hero of the novel embarks on a promising career in the not-so-moral world of door-to-door sales. Success seems easy and tempting, but halfway through becoming the perfect "scumbag" the young man finds he has no stomach for this world and begins to look for another life. He starts working as an autopsy photographer. The novel is both a kind of personal literary confession and a portrait of personal search and maturation.

Marek Hnila is a highly acclaimed Czech author of fiction.
Marek Hnila, a writer and publisher from Olomouc, has been working on a project to bring important literary works to pupils, students and the general public. His initiative "For the Promotion of Czech Fiction" aims to make quality literary works available online, free of charge, and to promote substantive debate with literary institutions. Hnila stresses the importance of artistic literature and seeks reform in the field of literary education, which includes cooperation with Palacký University and other institutions in the Olomouc region.
Marek Hnila published his fourth book, Between You and Me, which sold out its third print run despite its availability in the Prague library's online catalogue. This success, he says, is related to the philosophy of his project, which emphasizes the depth and emotional aspects of fiction. His work reflects the belief that art should be above commerce and promote itself.
The project also seeks to extend the reach of Czech fiction to Bohemian studies departments abroad, and Marek Hnila and his colleagues are working on other ambitious projects in collaboration with libraries and educators.
