About this ebook

The Smartphone Travel Photographer is a detailed, practical guide to The Art of Travel Photography with a Smartphone for readers who want a clear path from understanding the topic to using it confidently in real situations. The book is designed as a structured learning companion rather than a shallow overview: it introduces the core ideas, explains why they matter, then develops them through realistic examples, guided practice, scenario-based explanations, and common mistakes to avoid. Readers are taken step by step from foundational concepts into everyday applications, with each chapter building on the previous one so the material feels progressive, usable, and easy to revisit. The main areas of focus include Why Your Phone is the Ultimate Travel Camera, Essential Accessories and Settings, The Art of Composition: Framing Like a Pro, Mastering Light: From Golden Hour to Midnight, Capturing People and Culture, Landscapes and Panoramas, Street Photography: Finding Stories in Crowds, Food and Detail Shots: Macro Magic, Night and Low-Light Photography Without a Tripod, Editing Like a Pro: Top Apps and Techniques, giving the book a concrete learning arc that moves from orientation and confidence-building to applied communication, problem solving, and independent practice. The writing style is direct, supportive, and accessible, making the book suitable for self-study, classroom reinforcement, professional development, or personal improvement. It emphasizes practical understanding over abstract theory, so readers can immediately connect the lessons to conversations, decisions, habits, and challenges they are likely to face outside the page. By the end of the book, readers should have not only a stronger grasp of the subject, but also a collection of repeatable strategies, useful language patterns, mental models, and practical routines they can continue applying after they finish reading.

About the author

Benny Green is an award-winning travel photographer and educator who has been documenting the world with nothing more than his smartphone for over a decade. His work has been featured in *National Geographic Traveler*, *Condé Nast Traveller*, *BBC Travel*, and *The Guardian*, and he has curated exhibitions in New York, London, and Tokyo. After a fifteen-year career as a software engineer, Benny traded his keyboard for a camera phone and set out to prove that the best camera is the one that fits in your pocket.

He has led smartphone photography workshops in over thirty countries, from the bustling streets of Mumbai to the frozen landscapes of Iceland, teaching thousands of students how to capture compelling travel stories without bulky equipment. Benny’s teaching philosophy centers on accessibility and creativity: he believes that technical skill can be learned by anyone, but the true art lies in seeing the extraordinary in the ordinary. He is the host of the popular podcast *Pocket Frame*, where he interviews fellow mobile photographers and explores the intersection of travel, technology, and visual storytelling.

Benny lives in Portland, Oregon, with his wife and two rescue dogs, and spends at least four months of every year on the road, documenting remote cultures and vanishing traditions. When not shooting or teaching, he volunteers with non-profits that use photography to amplify the voices of indigenous communities. *The Smartphone Travel Photographer* is his first book, born from the belief that everyone has a story to tell and the power to tell it with the device already in their hand.
