The catch? Rick and fiancée Kat Faulkner, who’ve been prepping for a lavish wedding, are getting married in three days. But how can they deny the woman who just spent months helping Kat and her friends earn the certifications that will give them pro status at Rick’s detective agency?
Kat and the rest of the Formero Investigations team are confounded by clues at the gym where Claudia was killed, at the nonprofits where she did good work, and at her own elegant home. It seems someone went to a lot of trouble to plan the perfect murder of the perfect spouse. But why? As they rush to find answers before Kat and Rick’s big day, it becomes clear this dangerous case won’t be a piece of cake.
Barbara Barrett started reading mysteries when she was pregnant with her first child to keep her mind off things like her changing body and food cravings. When she’d devoured as many Agatha Christies as she could find, she branched out to English village cozies and Ellery Queen.
Later, to avoid a midlife crisis, she began writing fiction at night when she wasn’t at her day job in human resources for Iowa State Government. After releasing eleven full-length romance novels and two novellas, she returned to the cozy mystery genre, using one of her retirement pastimes, the game of mah jongg, as her inspiration. Not only has it been a great social outlet, it has also helped keep her mind active when not writing.
The Mah Jongg Mystery series is her first venture into writing cozy mysteries. After taking a short break from this series when the ninth book ended a few years ago, she now returns with “Formero Investigations,” the second part of the series. In this book, Book 12, The Perfect Pair, the four female protagonists and two of their men wait to hear if their PI Intern exams have earned them their certifications. Ironically, their instructor, Isabelle Langford, who they thought they wouldn’t see again soon, shows up at the Formero Investigations office asking for their help to investigate the murder of her sister-in-law and clear her brother from suspicion. It’s a big ask, because Kat and Rick’s wedding is three days off. But they owe Isabelle.
Barbara has also published seven books in the Nailed It Home Reno mystery series and three books in the Unscripted Detective mystery series.
She is a member of Sisters in Crime Worldwide, SinC – Iowa, Twin Cities Sisters in Crime and Florida STAR Fiction Writers.
She is married to the man she met her senior year of college. They have two grown children, eight grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
Now retired, she spends her time in Iowa and Minnesota. She earned her B.A. degree in History from the University of Iowa and her Master’s Degree in History from Drake University.
When not in front of her laptop creating her next story, she plays mah jongg, travels and enjoys lunches with friends.
