O ovoj e-knjizi
At the heart of the story is Xochitl, a noblewoman from Texcoco, whose intellect and allure make her Moctezuma’s favored consort, though her ambition to secure her son’s future sparks rivalry with Citlali, a fiery Tlaxcalan tribute whose seductive prowess challenges Xochitl’s dominance. Malintzin, a young Nahua woman with a gift for languages, navigates her outsider status, her loyalty torn between her people and her growing bond with Moctezuma. The harem’s dynamics mirror Tenochtitlán’s political tensions, as alliances with vassal states fray and omens of white-skinned strangers ripple through the court. Moctezuma, a ruler revered as a god, indulges in the harem’s pleasures while grappling with his empire’s fragility, his encounters with his consorts charged with both passion and the weight of rule.
