About this ebook

Lady Jane Shillington has spent years being overlooked. Too quiet to dazzle, too sensible to inspire pursuit, she has resigned herself to the dim fate of spinsterhood.

Until one scandalous morning changes everything.

Caleb, Marquess of Keery, wakes in Jane’s bed with no business being there and every reason to regret it. With gossip already spreading and Jane’s reputation hanging by a thread, he does the only honorable thing left to him: he offers marriage.

Their wedding is born of necessity, not affection. Yet beneath Caleb’s careless charm Jane discovers a man marked by loss, while Caleb finds in his unexpected bride a warmth, wit, and quiet courage he cannot ignore. What begins in resentment soon kindles into desire—and then into something far more perilous.

But when trust falters at the worst possible moment, their fragile new bond shatters. Separated by pride, pain, and old wounds, Jane and Caleb must decide whether their marriage will become a polite prison…or the love neither of them dared hope to find.

A sensual Victorian romance filled with scandal, forced proximity, emotional healing, and a deeply satisfying happily ever after.

This is a lunch read. This is Caleb and Jane's story. She is a spinster and he has a reputation that is scadalous. What will happen when they are caught in bed? Can they right her honor? Can he overcome his past? Can they survive together?. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

This was another great entry in the Ladies and Scoundrels series, it had a great overall feel to the story. The characters felt like they belonged in this series, I was never bored when reading this and glad it had the same spirit. I enjoyed the way Amanda Mariel wrote this and how it left me wanting more. Immediately beginning with a scandal the story continued with many misunderstandings, a lack of communication and much intrigue between Lady Jane and Caleb the Earl of Wesley, which had me continuously in wonder of what would occur next. All the characters were lovely. What began as a forced relationship soon turned into much love and romance with a touch of steam. Best of all it ended happily. I highly recommend reading!
