About this ebook

Sparks and fur fly when two Victorian dog owners meet in Regent’s Park!

Margaret Haselden lost her parents young and has made a life for herself in the household of a kindly doctor and his wife. It isn’t a bad life—but it isn’t quite hers, either. When she takes in a scrappy stray terrier found rummaging through her rubbish bins, she finally has something to care for that’s entirely her own.

Then her new companion sinks his teeth into the prized bulldog of Edward Cherrill, Duke of St. Lawrence.

Edward has spent his life being exactly the duke his family needs him to be—responsible, composed, and far too busy for nonsense like a scruffy terrier terrorizing his prize bulldog. But Margaret’s fierce devotion to her dog catches his attention.

As their paths keep crossing in the park, over tea, and everywhere in between, Edward discovers that Margaret makes him laugh, challenges him, and tempts him to forget the endless demands of his title. Margaret, meanwhile, finds a duke who is far warmer—and far funnier—than his imposing reputation suggests.

Neither of them is looking for love. Margaret has spent too long content with a life that was never quite her own, and Edward has spent too long putting duty before his own happiness. But with every stolen smile and morning stroll, the impossible becomes harder to resist.

Because sometimes the best matches aren’t made by pedigree.

They’re made by chance, in muddy parks, with one very badly behaved dog.

Margaret Haselden decided there was a prowler lurking outside her home after three nights She Informed Her Uncle Chas who sent her coachman to investigate no one found anything. Margaret knew that there was somebody there and her and her maid thought of a way to discover who it was, the maid didn't like the idea though. Margaret snuck out of the house she was going to confront the prowler; someone had been rummaging in the garbage bends she called for him to come out no one answered. She called again, and out of the corner of her eye she saw someone behind the milk crates she longed for the crate it cell then it began to rattle and shake and danced across the pavement a small brown dog emerged from the great and Margaret fell in love the dog was no peeping Tom no prowler just a little hungry dog she picked them up and took and carried them into the house. So her in the maid went to the kitchen to bathe Clover after all that's what she named the dog then all sorts of trouble occurred Clover didn't want to bath he got loose they couldn't catching and who should happen to come up on the scene her Uncle Chas who told them they were going to have to clean up the kitchen and not leave a mess for the servants when they came in the morning. The next morning Margaret and Susan took Clover for a walk in Regents Park. Edward, the 11th Duke of St. Lawrence was in the park walking his dog Tiger this was the Duke's favorite part of the day. Margaret and Susan was walking Clover when he slipped his lead found Tiger and bit him in the back leg or hip area after the Duke got him off of Tiger Margaret reached out and grabbed Clover and he bit her then promptly buried himself in her skirts the Duke called him a rat or in a mongrel and told her that he should be in the stables the alley the gutter art the blood is sewer the dog was uncivilized and dangerous and shouldn't be in a public park. Margaret offered to pay for the services of a veterinarian and the cost of his care Duke told her to keep her money of course now Margaret didn't realize he was the Duke. Now to find out what else happens and who else Clover bites you have to read the book. And it's a good book...

SPOILER ⚠️ ALERT ⚠️ A very well written book. A humorous, sweet, and enjoyable book that can be read within a couple of hours. It gives you a warm, fuzzy, happy feeling. HIGHLY recommend you read this if you are looking for HEA I would have liked to have had more story/details at the end of the book. You went into details of how her aunt dressed, how The Duke dressed several times, and what his sister wore. I would have liked it if you had described her wedding dress, her Aunt and Uncle's reactions at the wedding, her Uncle's last words before he walked her down the aisle, the Duke's reaction to coming towards him, etc. And at least a scene where she meets his brothers. And in the epilogue his family is in the crowd, where are her Aunt and Uncle?

An absolutely delightful story which includes a duke, an orphan miss, a stray scrappy terrier and a prized bulldog!! Put all 4 together and you get such a refreshing story with lots of humor and love. I'm more of a cat person but I must admit these two dogs, Clover and Tiger, pulled at my heartstrings! Edward Cherrill, The Duke Of St Lawrence, encounters Margaret Haselden in a park in a very unusual way....her terrier attacks his bulldog! Before long they become friends and start walking their dogs together every morning. Friendship turns into love and Margaret must decide if she is "duchess" material....Edward has no doubt she is:) Again, this is a very sweet story that's very easy to read and very relaxing. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am leaving an honest review.
