About this ebook

Key resource for tourism researchers interested in ensuring that people living with dementia can participate meaningfully and with equity and dignity in travel

This book explores the intersection of dementia, leisure and tourism, considering the opportunities and challenges that travel presents for people living with dementia and their companions and caregivers. It introduces key concepts and historical perspectives on dementia, situates these within the context of global population ageing, and reviews research across dementia, tourism and related fields. It also highlights lived experiences of travel for people living with dementia and the practical, emotional and relational dimensions of dementia caregiving, alongside strategies for trip planning and risk reduction. Bringing together theoretical insights, research approaches, practical solutions and real-world examples, the book offers guidance for creating more inclusive tourism experiences and environments that are empowering and enriching for people living with dementia, their families and the wider community. It is essential reading for tourism students and researchers, as well as tourism stakeholders and dementia advocacy and support organisations.
