Delightful sisters find true love! Margo and Matilda have, since their debut seven years prior, sowed every wild oat they could find, breaking all the rules and flaunting their refusal to conform to society far and wide. Now, however, they've reached the stage where they're far too introspective and contemplative to maintain the status quo. Life has them reevaluating their direction, setting goals, and looking to the future. It's a glorious ride for each of them, and together their two stories make this an exemplary romance novel. Margo is up first, drafting her longtime friend Henry to help her track down Matilda who, it seems, has run off with a notorious marquess. It is on this journey that Margo discovers just who she is, learns so much more about just who Henry is, and develops a new appreciation for who Matilda is. This is a journey of self much more than it is a road trip, though the road trip itself brings a lot of fun and romping hilarity to Margo and Henry's lives. After Margo and Henry have things sorted out, we move to Matilda, who is having to account for some ill-advised choices she has made along the way. Finding herself under the scrutiny of the very demanding Christian de Bord, the 6th Marquess of Ashford, she struggles to reconcile the explanation of her actions with the future she sees for herself. Her developing relationship with Christian brings all sorts of surprises for both of them, as she completely redecorates his life while he reorders her assessment of her truest self. Add in a visit from the Cat Distribution Society and a bright, intelligent sister, and we have a heartwarming story of love across all layers of familial relationships. I enjoyed this book so much, due mostly to the exquisitely creative writing style that deftly combines deeply intense emotional impact with vividly descriptive and resonant prose. It's a joy to read from start to finish, and I highly recommend it for anyone who enjoys historical romances.
