Wind Spirit

When investigator Ella Clah falls into a mine shaft on the Navajo reservation while rescuing a child, suddenly she is an outcast. The traditionalist Navajo don't see her as a survivor—they believe that she died while trapped underground.

When fire claims the life of the wife of a Navajo Councilmember in what looks to be arson, Ella's investigations are hampered by her near-death experience at the mine. The Navajo are reluctant to be near or even speak to Ella, fearing that since she was dead, she has been contaminated with chindi and become evil. Even some of her fellow police officers are uncomfortable in Ella's presence.

Suddenly Ella's whole life is changed. If she can't be a cop, then how will she protect the community she cares about?
