About this ebook

America has fallen. The Western Allied States rose from its ashes—and it does not forgive.

Eighteen-year-old Chris never thought of himself as a traitor. He doesn't get the chance to argue otherwise. Taken in the night, he wakes in a facility buried deep in the Californian mountains—and he isn’t alone.

Elizabeth Flores has been running her whole life, ever since the night soldiers took her parents. With a brutal winter closing in, she risks everything to reach Sacramento. The hunters find her first.

Now they’re both “volunteers” in the Praegressus Project—a government initiative to enhance the human race. Stripped of their rights, Chris and Elizabeth must work together to survive the torturous experiments. Every day is a test, and every mistake has a cost. The regime doesn't waste resources on failures.

But only the lucky ones get to die.

Blending the insane experiments of Stranger Things and the merciless dystopia of the Hunger Games, fans will love this thrilling Sci-Fi series. Discover a future where the powerful rule without mercy and survival is never guaranteed. Packed with genetic engineering, apocalyptic dystopia, and a thread of romance woven through every page, this is the series you didn't know you were waiting for.

Edit: The author re-wrote this series as "The Evolution Gene Trilogy". Read that instead to avoid these complaints. Good premise, weak execution. There are typos and grammatical errors littered throughout the whole thing which are immersion breaking. The characters are supposed to be from California, but they say things like "adverts" and "Mum" which are clearly the author's own voice bleeding through. I don't think this draft went past a single editor's eyes before being published. If you can force yourself to overlook the weak prose, the plot is likeable enough. The main characters are feisty and sympathetic. The worldbuilding is pretty good. There are weak moments where it seems like things are only happening because the author said so, not because the characters have any motivation. The romance in particular felt very abrupt. Overall, would not recommend this unless you have a very specific weak spot for the "humans with wings" trope, and this is all you could find.
