Shadow Forest is a lovely and strange spot. It's full of birds, rivers, flowers, and animals that like to play during the day. The forest changes at nite, though. Strange sounds are made by the wind, and blue lights show up between the trees. The paths get dark. No one is sure where these lights come from, but they look like lanterns floating in the air.
Beasts in Shadow Forest have been telling stories about the blue lights for a very long time. Some people think that the lights are ghosts. Some people think they are messages from strange creatures that live underground. A lot of animals are scared of them.
Juno Moonspot, a young leopard, doesn't believe these stories right away. She is brave, interested, and loves figuring out secrets. Juno thinks that mysteries can be solved. Before she thinks something is true, she looks for signs and proof.
One nite, Milo, Juno's younger cousin, follows one of the strange blue lights into the forest and doesn't come back. Juno starts to worry about him and decides to look for him. She goes deep into Shadow Forest after his tracks.
She finds hidden caves, glowing crystals, strange machines, and an old underground city called Lumen Station on her trip. She finds out that the Lantern Goalkeepers made some of the blue lanterns a long time ago. The crystals, wires, and tools that these animals used to make lights helped people find safe ways through the forest.
But Juno also finds strange lights that float in space that are hard to explain.
Juno learns a very important lesson by the end of her journey. A lot of people ask questions and look for proof, but it's also important to keep an open mind. There may be some truth in old stories every once in a while. The answer isn't always easy, but sometimes it's even better than we thought.
One missing cub and one blue lantern set off Juno on an unforgettable journey of bravery, discovery, family, science, and wonder.
