Alan Watts (Londres, 1915) escribió más de veinticinco libros, incluyendo The Book: On the Taboo Against Knowing Who You Are, The Wisdom of Insecurity, y Psychotherapy East and West. Tras abandonar la Academia Americana de Estudios Asiáticos, Watts continuó escribiendo y viajando, grabó centenares de entrevistas, conferencias, seminarios y dos series de televisión. Escribió para revistas como Elle y Playboy, y fue considerado por los defensores de la contracultura como un referente espiritual. Falleció en 1973.
