About this audiobook
This audiobook is narrated by an AI Voice. From the timeless Sherlock Holmes canon, **The Adventure of the Copper Beeches** is the twelfth tale collected in *The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes*, narrated faithfully by Dr. John Watson.
When the impoverished governess Violet Hunter seeks Sherlock Holmes’ counsel, she brings with her an extraordinarily strange job offer. A wealthy landowner, Jephro Rucastle, offers her an unusually generous yearly salary to serve as governess at his Hampshire home, The Copper Beeches—but only if she agrees to bizarre conditions: she must cut her beautiful chestnut hair short, wear a specified electric-blue dress, and sit in a chosen position by the window upon his command.
Though Holmes warns Violet the position carries hidden risk, financial hardship compels her to accept the role. Once settled at the remote country estate, she uncovers a string of unsettling secrets: a ferocious mastiff loose every night to guard the grounds, a locked forbidden wing of the house, a mysterious man watching her from the roadside, and a shockingly familiar coil of hair discovered inside a locked drawer.
Plagued by paranoia and unanswered questions, Violet sends an urgent telegram summoning Holmes and Watson to Winchester. What unfolds is a twisted plot of captivity, stolen inheritance, and deception. Holmes races to unravel the truth behind Rucastle’s odd demands before an innocent prisoner suffers irreversible harm.
One of Arthur Conan Doyle’s most haunting standalone mysteries, *The Adventure of the Copper Beeches* explores isolation, manipulation, and the dangers lurking behind the peaceful facade of rural England. Experience this classic Victorian detective story in immersive audiobook form, complete with differentiated voice acting for Sherlock Holmes, Dr. Watson, Violet Hunter, Rucastle, and all supporting characters.
