About this audiobook
The Disallowed is a philosophical comedy set in a remote Thai village. Heng, a middle-aged goatherd, falls mysteriously ill until a shaman aunt declares his blood has turned to water. One night he collapses - and transforms into a bat. Prescribed a bizarre diet of blood and milk, he regains strength but craves human blood. After biting a neighbour, she too transforms, and together they explore caves and rivers, revelling in flight. Soon the entire village embraces vampirism, eager for freedom and adventure. More comedy than horror, the novel asks: what is forbidden, who sets the rules, and why do humans long to break them?
