About this audiobook

Sutter Cane’s Most Anticipated Novel Has Arrived

In the Mouth of Madness is the long-lost novel fans have been waiting for.

Listeners of his earlier book (The Hobbs End Horror, The Thing in the Basement, The Breathing Tunnel, Haunter in the Dark, The Feeding and The Whisperer of the Dark) will recognize his signature blend of psychological terror and cosmic dread.

Sutter Cane has always been a figure shrouded in mystery. Critics have called his writing “dangerously immersive” and “deeply infectious.” Although sales records are incomplete or missing, many believe he has outsold every living author.

The story follows John Trent, an insurance investigator assigned to find Sutter Cane after his sudden disappearance. What begins as a simple missing person case soon spirals into a nightmare. Trent learns that Cane’s fiction doesn’t just reflect reality, it may shape it.

This is a great read for anyone who likes meta, psychological, sci-fi horror. Definitely an interesting story and it makes me want to watch the movie. But this is a rare case where you can either watch the movie or read the book first, because from what I understand they referenced each other.

About the author

Sutter Cane is the internationally bestselling author of horror and psychological thriller novels, known for his unflinching prose, unsettling imagery, and ability to blur the line between the familiar and the terrifying. With a career spanning over two decades, Cane has built a dedicated readership drawn to his layered characters, atmospheric settings, and deeply human explorations of fear. A private individual, Cane rarely makes public appearances, preferring to let the work speak for itself. His favorite color is blue.

A student of neuroscience and speech pathology, Sean Patrick Hopkins has translated his understanding of human behavior and vocal performance into a career in storytelling. His classical training and versatility with dialects has helped to create distinct and varied characters across many genres. In addition to narrating over 100 audiobooks, he has been seen and heard on film, television, video games, and stages in New York City and across the country. When not in the booth, you can find him buried in genealogy research, out exploring our National Parks, and raising an amazing daughter alongside his wife, fellow narrator Patricia Santomasso.
