About this audiobook

Captured by the Philistines as a young boy, Zevi has grown into a formidable warrior. As a captain in King Saul’s army, he is assigned a crucial mission: recruit soldiers, gather tribute for the royal coffers, and find talented artisans for the king’s court. But when he is sent to Maresha, the town he was forced to leave as a child, he is dismayed when the elder council rejects King Saul and his campaign, leaving the town vulnerable to retribution and the threat of outside enemies.

Yochana, a widow and skilled woman of business, is captivated by a stranger who enters her perfume shop. Upon discovering he is not only a soldier but a captain responsible for enlisting young men to die in battle, fury and pain from her past loss resurfaces. But when Zevi’s actions in Maresha entangle Yochana in his radical scheme, they’ll be forced to face present dangers while confronting scars of the past.

Another amazing book in the King’s Men series! Shield of the Mighty is an inspiring, thrilling story with action, romance, & compelling characters! Connilyn Cossette brings so much heart to this faith filled story. I enjoyed the instant attraction, captor/captive, slow burn romance and the beautiful messages woven throughout the story. I loved the way this Biblical time period was brought to life in such a vivid, exciting way. Highly recommend to Biblical & historical fiction fans!

Cossette continues to prove herself a master of biblical fiction with this third installment. Her characters feel believable and fully human — flawed, striving, and real — which makes the ancient events of Scripture come alive in a way that feels immediate rather than distant. You're not just reading about history; you're living inside it alongside people you come to care about. What stands out most is how consistently the story points back to God's glory. This isn't faith tacked onto the plot — it's woven into the very fabric of the narrative, giving the book a sense of purpose beyond entertainment. The pacing has a thoughtful, almost meandering quality to it — not rushed, but rich with detail and reflection — and that unhurried style is exactly what keeps you engrossed. Rather than dragging, it draws you deeper into the characters' inner lives and struggles, making the eventual payoffs feel earned. A strong addition to the series for anyone who loves seeing Scripture brought to life through compelling, faith-centered storytelling.

Zevi was fierce and loyal, Yochana courageous and compassionate. Both were worthy of rooting for. I loved them! Author Connilyn Cossette has a talent for making the world of the Bible come to life in an extraordinary way! I was very excited to continue the adventures of the four cousins in The King’s Men series and, after having read Shield of the Mighty, I’m just as excited to continue doing so with whatever the author has in store next!
