The black SUV stopped in front of the large, modern house at exactly noon. I sat there for a long moment, staring at the sleek lines of the building and the high privacy walls surrounding it. My two suitcases suddenly felt very small.

Ace opened the front door before I could even knock. Kane stood just behind him.

“Come in,” Ace said, his voice calm but firm.

I dragged my suitcases inside. The door closed behind me with a heavy click, and the atmosphere in the house shifted immediately.

Ace stepped close and put a hand on the back of my neck.

“Leave the bags there for now. Let’s show you what you’re here for.”

He guided me forward into a large living room.
