The Ashes of Blackwell County
About this audiobook
Texas, 1866.
The war is over, but Blackwell County has not found peace.
When former Confederate soldier Elijah Boone returns home expecting little more than a ruined estate and a quiet life of rebuilding, he finds his family's land decaying beneath the weight of old sins. The Boone plantation stands abandoned, the fields swallowed by weeds, and the county simmering with the dangerous tensions of Reconstruction.
Then a violent storm tears open the eastern ravine on Boone property—and exposes a hidden grave.
Among the bones lie fragments of Union blue, civilian cloth, and questions buried since the final months of the Civil War.
As Elijah is drawn into an uneasy alliance with Sheriff Isaiah Reed, a Black Union veteran struggling to enforce federal law in a hostile Southern town, long-buried secrets begin clawing their way to the surface. Powerful men want the truth silenced. Old loyalties demand obedience. And the land itself seems determined to remember what Blackwell County tried to forget.
Dark, atmospheric, and morally gripping, The Ashes of Blackwell County is a Southern Gothic tale of inherited guilt, buried violence, and the impossible search for redemption in the ashes of a broken nation.
