THE BREAD BETWEEN US

When twenty-six-year-old baker Mara Bennett returns to the lakeside town of Briar Glen, she tells herself it is only temporary. Her grandmother’s bakery, The Copper Spoon, needs sorting, the old apartment above it needs clearing, and Mara’s life in the city is waiting for her to decide what comes next.

But Briar Glen is not the quiet memory she left behind.

The shop windows still glow at dusk. The church bells still ring over the square. The lake still catches the moonlight like a secret. And Julian Reed, her childhood best friend—the boy who once knew her dreams before she knew how to speak them—has grown into the kind of man who repairs old things with patient hands and remembers every promise Mara tried to forget.

As Mara reopens the bakery for one last summer festival, she discovers handwritten recipes, family secrets, and the possibility that leaving was never the brave choice she thought it was. Between flour-dusted mornings and lantern-lit evenings, Mara and Julian must decide whether the past is something to outgrow—or something strong enough to build a future on.

A tender, heartwarming romance about home, second chances, and the sweetness of being truly known.
