The Iron Captain
Before the Temple, there was the Trench. Before the Psalms, there was the Sword.
Israel is a kingdom forged in blood, and Joab ben Zeruiah is the man with the hammer. As the supreme commander of King David’s armies, Joab is the iron shadow at the heels of a poet-king. He is the pragmatist who does the "necessary" evils so that David can remain the man after God’s own heart. From the claustrophobic water shafts of Jebus to the gore-slicked trenches of Rabbah, Joab’s life is a masterclass in calculated violence and absolute, terrifying loyalty.
But in the city of David, loyalty is a shifting sand. Joab has spent forty years burying the King’s enemies—and occasionally the King’s secrets. He has stood over the fallen, from the noble to the treacherous, and executed the judgments David was too soft to pronounce. He is the architect of an empire, yet he is a man of the dirt in a kingdom that now yearns for gold.
As the sun sets on David’s reign, the old warrior finds himself a relic of a brutal age, caught in a web of dynastic rot and palace intrigue. In a land beginning to speak of peace and wisdom, what place is left for the butcher?
"The Captain of the Host" is a visceral, action-packed journey into the heart of the Davidic era. It is a story of grit, gore, and the high cost of sovereignty—a reminder that every throne is built upon a mountain of the dead, and every kingdom is only as strong as the man who holds its iron.
Hailing from a small island in the western Caribbean, I dedicated my early life to Religious Studies, earning a Masters in Religion and Theology. Complementing this, I also hold an A.A.S. in Applied Sciences, specializing in both MicroBiology and Chemistry.
My literary pursuits are deeply rooted in a lifelong appreciation for "weekend books"—concise, 10-to-15-chapter narratives designed for leisure reading. Upon embarking on my professional writing career, I deliberately focused on this specific genre with the objective of providing readers with the same sense of fulfillment these brief works afforded me. While my portfolio has expanded to include several full-length novels, I retain a particular affinity for the short story format.
