About this audiobook

Read by the author and featuring eight exclusive bonus sections Jen calls “Vaginal Vignettes”: humorous and unforgettable moments from Jen’s real-life experiences in the labor and delivery room.

“A refreshingly compassionate roadmap built on boundaries, clarity, and real communication, because growing a family shouldn’t mean losing yourself.” ―Eve Rodsky, New York Times bestselling author of Fair Play

Childbirth is one of life’s most powerful experiences—but it can also be overwhelming. Too often, expecting parents are prompted to create their perfect “birth plan,” only to feel disappointed or even traumatized if things go differently. That’s where Jen Hamilton comes in.

A labor and delivery nurse, ER veteran, and mom herself, Jen has been a steady presence at thousands of births (and on millions of screens). In Birth Vibes she uses both humor and heart, sharing her own stories to guide readers expectations about what happens in the delivery room. Instead of unyielding checklists, she encourages parents to learn their birth vibes—a blend of values and vision—which unlock the tools to advocate for the personalized care they need.

Birth Vibes is the ultimate companion for anyone preparing to give birth—or supporting someone who is. Warm, funny, and deeply grounded in real-life experience, this is the guide every parent deserves: allowing them adapt to whatever birth brings with confidence and calm.

“I highly recommend Birth Vibes for pregnant women who plan to have hospital births.” —Ina May Gaskin, CPM

“This book doesn’t just prepare you for birth; it changes how you think about it.” —Hadley Vlahos, RN

“Compassionate, real, and reassuring.” —KC Davis, LPC

Loved it! I am a expecting FTM and prefer to learn everything I can before doing something, labor included. This book was so helpful in teaching me so much of all the possibilities (good and bad) and how someone SHOULD be treated in L&D. All I can say is I wish Jen was my nurse!!! She is amazing. Ive been following her on FB for a while and could not wait to read her book!

I am at the other end of the spectrum... I'm 49 years old and I've had 2 children, both vaginals births and both deeply traumatic. Our first child was a girl who only took 8 hours to come into this world but holy moly! it was a rough 8 hours! I had a tentative birth plan. I knew i wanted an epidural as soon as possible. After an hour of continued pain with each contraction, I told the nurses but I wasn't believed. During the pushing stage my baby turned her head into my pelvis and refused to be moved. I was in hell. I'll never forget the pain and confusion. Once they had me on the table doggie style trying to move her they realized the epidural was not placed properly. too late! Our boy was born 4 years later and took 26 hours!I couldn't believe it but I had the same issue with the epidural and the same response. I explained that this happened before please check it... it turns out my Anadamy is screwy. and once again traumatic labor. Our son passed away a few weeks later. I hope this book will encourage medical professionals to listen to their patients and women to speak up. Awesome book!

Amazing! 10/10, no notes. Every pregnant friend needs this book, especially our first timers. I wish I had this when I was pregnant with my first.
