About this audiobook

Wildwood Blackstone believed her dream of being a country blacksmith was coming true.

Life would be simple; move to Bannock, restore the abandoned carriage house into a working blacksmith shop, build a new life as a welder and artist, and finally have a place to call home. But shortly after her arrival, she discovers this truth; there are more than ghosts in Bannock.

When a teenage crush and childhood friend from foster care, Shay Cortland Pierce, answers a call for help, Wildwood finds a part of her past that she longed to rediscover. Never did she imagine Shay’s presence in her life would bring her back to the magical world she’d abandoned.

As the flames of their past relationship rekindle, Wildwood, Shay, and Shay’s K-9 partner Dexter experience curious ethereal events that prompt an investigation. Through these supernatural oddities in the new place Wildwood calls home, Wildwood and Shay’s hidden abilities are exposed, taking them on an adventure to realms they’ve never known.

As the trio’s exploration of demons and evil unfolds, Bannock’s secrets are unveiled, leading them to their future and the mystery behind the Mark of the Maker.

But with these two extraordinary women, there is so much more to this story.

Binge the COMPLETE series!

This book was one of those incredibly lucky finds that turns out to be the beginning of a new reading adventure. From page one I fell easily and completely into this author's ever-so-solid writing and what I found to be a compelling story that felt fresh and wholly captivating. I appreciated that there was a history for the two FMC's, Wildwood and Shay - the connection they had from shared time in the foster care system where their psyches were formed - and how that bond was rekindled, then flipped into something surprising and unexpected. There's a significant amount of trauma to work through here so the burn is slow but I loved the on-page care the author has crafted into the growth of their relationship. And there's a dog! Dex is Shay's Police K9 partner so there's protectiveness, affection and the drive to do their duty all mixed up into a lovely bond that then extends to include Wildwood. Wildwood's chosen profession of blacksmith was unusual but I found it really interesting, and I liked the gender swap of a traditionally male role - "There was something very satisfying about a truck full of guys watching me work.". How she used her skills in the supernatural part of her new world was impressive and empowering and it made me dream of being that cool when I grow up! There's still a lot of story to develop and work through but this is book one of a complete four book series and I can't wait to begin the next. •○●○• •○●○• •○●○• •○●○• •○●○• •○●○• "...the unknown would not be an obstacle for my future." *** I listened to this at 1.1 speed.
